This privacy policy describes how the Cavtat Dive Dark Chrome extension ("the Extension") handles user data. We are committed to protecting your privacy and being transparent about our practices.
In short: The Extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data with us or any third party. All data stays on your device.
What the Extension Does
Cavtat Dive Dark replaces your Chrome new tab page with a custom page that displays:
- A background photograph of an underwater dive scene in Cavtat, Croatia
- A large semi-transparent clock showing your current local time
- Current weather conditions for your location and for Cavtat, Croatia
Data Collection
We do not collect any personal data. The Extension does not have a server, database, or any backend infrastructure. No information is transmitted to us or to any third party under our control.
Geolocation
To display local weather, the Extension requests your geographic coordinates through your browser's built-in Geolocation API. This request is handled entirely by Chrome's standard permission prompt — you can allow or deny it at any time.
If you grant location access:
- Your coordinates are sent directly from your browser to the Open-Meteo weather API and to OpenStreetMap Nominatim to retrieve weather data and resolve your city name.
- These requests go directly from your browser to these third-party APIs. Your coordinates are never sent to us or stored anywhere.
- No location history is kept. Each time you open a new tab, the Extension requests your current location fresh.
If you deny location access, the Extension still works — it simply does not display local weather, and only shows weather for Cavtat, Croatia.
Third-Party Services
The Extension communicates directly with the following third-party services from your browser:
- Open-Meteo (open-meteo.com) — to fetch current weather data. See their terms.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim (nominatim.openstreetmap.org) — to resolve coordinates to a city name. See their privacy policy.
- Google Fonts (fonts.google.com) — to load the Inter typeface. See their privacy policy.
We have no control over and assume no responsibility for the privacy practices of these third-party services. We encourage you to review their respective policies.
Data Storage
The Extension does not use cookies, local storage, Chrome storage APIs, or any other persistence mechanism. No data is saved between sessions.
Data Sharing and Sales
We do not sell, trade, rent, or otherwise transfer any user data to any third party. We do not use data for advertising, analytics, or tracking purposes.
The use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Children's Privacy
The Extension does not knowingly collect any information from children under the age of 13. Since the Extension collects no personal data at all, it is safe for users of all ages.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Any changes will be reflected on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Continued use of the Extension after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
